Aging is hard for anyone—it means more wrinkles and, grays and just a dreaded sense that you’re getting older. At least, that’s what the media sometimes makes it seem like. However, lately, Hollywood stars have been embracing their older age.
For example, after fans have made comments about how much older certain celebrities looked, Sarah Jessica Parker amid the Sex and the City reboot, the 56-year-old actress spouted back. people were commenting on how old she and the other crew members looked and questioning if the reboot was really necessary at their ages.
“There were a lot of positive reactions, but one bitchy response online was people sharing pictures of the Golden Girls,” said the show’s creator, Michael Patrick King. “And I was like, ‘Wow, so it’s either you’re 35, or you’re retired and living in Florida. There’s a missing chapter here.’”
And now, Savannah Guthrie is going through something similar. The TODAY co-anchor recently shared what one of her “fans” had to say about the way she looked in her Instagram stories. “You look so old Savannah what happened to you,” the person had told her.
Don’t worry, Guthrie didn’t take this to heart at all. She crossed out the person’s name and posted the screenshot with “I love my fans.”
And hey, since this person was clearly very interested enough to ask the question, Guthrie didn’t leave them hanging. She simply responded to them “I aged!”
At 50 years old, Guthrie still looks amazing, but there are always going to be Internet trolls lurking to try and bring people down.
Guthrie has always been open about her age and the aging process, and how she isn’t always going to look the same as each birthday passes.
“I’m like anyone — when I see a picture where my wrinkles are apparent, I don’t love looking at that, and I’ll try to put the good Instagram filter on there to make it look better,” she told TODAY back in 2018. “But I’m not going to not put the picture up.”
“I’m 46 years old and I don’t mind looking 46 years old,” Guthrie continued. “Sometimes people say, ‘I can see your wrinkles.’ Well, that’s true. I do have some wrinkles. I call them smile lines. They’re from smiles and laughing, and those are the best kind of wrinkles.”
We think that’s beautiful! What are your thoughts on aging in the spotlight, or simply aging at all? Are you for embracing it, or hiding it?
