It can’t be easy to pull off a surprise proposal— the hiding, the planning, the little white lies, all the necessary aspects to make the moment memorable. When it’s in a public place, well, your emotions are on display for everyone to see.

Some people like to go big with flash mobs or other epic gestures, and some keep it a little quieter. Mike and Michelle had been dating for a very long time – seven years to be exact. It was a very special night for Michelle as she was graduating from Chicago’s Loyola University nursing program. What a huge accomplishment! There to cheer her on and celebrate was her boyfriend Mike.

But Mike had something else up his sleeve for the evening. He planned a special proposal for the love of his life, smackdab in the middle of a crowd of celebrating strangers. As the video opens, Mike is setting up a small speaker dock as he patiently waits for his lady love to come out.
 
With Jason Derulo’s “Marry Me” cued up, he sits with a few pieces of poster board with handwritten words on them. Besides the camera giving it away, you know she’s coming down the hall because a big smile is written all over Mike’s face. See the sparkly dimple in his cheek?
 
As Michelle makes her way through the crowd, she waves happily as she finally found him in a sea of people. Then she sees it. The first sign reads: “Shelly, I love you so much”. That first look is all it takes for Michelle to get emotional.
 
It’s clear that she was not expecting to see this after navigating through a heavy post-graduation crowd. What a beautiful surprise! It’s okay if the tears have contagiously spread to you through your screen too. Perfectly timed to match up with the lyrics to the song, Mike switches from sign to sign expressing his love to Michelle.
 

And then comes the part in the song that goes, “But one day I won’t be able to ask you loud enough. . .Will. You. Maaaaarrrry Meeee?” So sweet! Sing along as you watch Mike drop down on one knee to pop the question.
 
People standing around them can’t help but get swept up in the romantic moment, and you can see the surprised bystanders smiling and cheering for the lovebirds. Keep watching to see Michelle’s response; she is absolutely stunned and speechless. Now Michelle has two reasons to celebrate, and two reasons to remember this day for the rest of her life.
 
Mike creatively showed the world how much he loves and appreciates Michelle, and this video racked up over 3,000,000 views online. He definitely scored a few points on the tearjerker wedding proposal scale.  Public proposals like these have a way of making our hearts collectively melt.
