Life as a prince is no doubt exhausting. But life as a prince with a newborn and two young children? How does one even function? Answer: It’s really, really hard.

You probably heard already that Prince William and wife Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton recently welcomed a third child, Prince Louis Arthur Charles, into their family. It was a beautiful April day at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington for all involved, and the pair looked super happy as they waved to crowds hours after the birth.

Just a week after Prince Louis went home, Prince William made a statement that the new little royal was doing quite well, and surprised us all when he said he was sleeping through the night, something not a lot of newborns can attest to.

And yet, an event that Prince William attended might prove that to be not so true anymore.

He recently joined his brother Prince Harry and his fiancé Meghan Markle on stage at the Anzac memorial services at Westminster Abbey—and could barely even keep his eyes open during the entire event!

Whether or not you have a child, we all know that feeling of your body wanting to take a nap, but your brain fighting to stay awake. And we can see poor Prince William trying anything to keep his eyes open just for a moment or two.

Let’s face it, parents of newborns don’t get a lot of sleep. A poll by the National Sleep Foundation found that 76 percent of parents have frequent sleep problems. And though a royal, Prince William is no exception.

The event was Prince William’s first royal function since Prince Louis was born, and a lot of people understood that and gave him a break. In fact, no one really felt the need to bash him about the situation, which is pretty unheard of in this age of social media negativity. The response was overly positive as many felt sympathetic for Prince William and felt like they’ve been there before.

“Poor Prince William! Every parent knows that feeling of overwhelming exhaustion. Unfortunately, William has cameras capturing his unsuccessful fight to stay awake!” one woman tweeted.

Someone made the point that he should get credit just for getting to the event. “Applaud for him that he showed up. I can image how tired he is for the past and next couple of days,” the tweet read.

And for any haters, if there were any, this Twitter user defended William to a T.

“Leave the poor guy alone. He has a new baby and two young children. I’m surprised he wasn’t sound asleep and snoring!”

(P.S. We’re totally laughing at the thought of a snoring Prince William during a royal engagement like this!)

That new dad life can be really tough, and we hope Prince William is able to take a nap (or two) soon.
