When a couple gets married, in order for the marriage to be successful, compromise is often necessary. After all, a marriage involves two different people who are bound to have some similarities and some differences. Each person may change a little bit for the other, but they will still remain a product of their upbringing and values.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are a great example of two people from two very different backgrounds who have a lot of similarities and a lot of differences. Obviously, they grew up in two different countries with two very different families, but they share some core values.

On February 26, 2022, Meghan and Harry accepted the President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards. At the awards, Prince Harry said, “I think it’s safe to say that I come from a very different background from my incredible wife, yet our lives were brought together for a reason.” He added, “We share a commitment to a life of service, a responsibility to combat injustice and a belief that the most often overlooked are the most important to listen to.”

One of Meghan’s core ways to “combat injustice” is to fight for animal rights. It’s said that when she and Harry were dating, she convinced him to stop hunting. Harry grew up hunting, which is an activity that is ingraining in the royal family and part of their tradition.

In 2017, Harry went on a wild boar hunt in Germany. When Meghan found out, she “wasn’t happy” about it, so Harry bowed out of the royal family’s traditional Boxing Day hunt. Fast forward to 2020, and Harry sold his Purdey hunting rifles before he and Meghan moved from the UK to Canada.

While Harry may have stopped hunting, he still seems to be okay with activities in which animals are forced to perform. On Saturday March 5, 2022, the prince was spotted attending a rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas. We can’t help but wonder what Meghan, who was not with him, thinks about this activity. We also can’t help but reflect on the fact that a British prince attended an American rodeo. It shows how Americanized he has become due to his wife and at the same time how much their values don’t exactly line up.

According to an insider who spoke to the Daily Mail, most people at the rodeo didn’t recognize Harry, but three people who did recognize him were very surprised that he was there especially because of Meghan’s views of animal rights. The insider described the rodeo as “a quintessentially American event, where animals are made to perform.”
