Prince Harry Opens Up About His Grandparents’ Relationship In New Documentary

While Prince Harry‘s parents’ marriage ended in divorce, he did have positive role models for what a good marriage should look like. In a new documentary about the life of Prince Philip, the Queen’s late husband, Harry spoke fondly about his grandparents and their marriage.

Prince Philip and the Queen were married for 74 years before he passed away at age 99. They married young, and they both devoted their lives to service. According to Prince Harry, they were very much in love. He explained, “The two of them together were just the most adorable couple.” He added that “behind what the world sees you have two individuals who were very much in love and both, from a very young age, have dedicated their life to service—that is an incredible bond between two people.”

While Harry misses his grandfather, he misses him mostly because he knows how much his grandmother misses her husband. He said, “[I] miss him more for my grandmother because I know how incredibly strong she was with him there.” Yet, Harry believes is grandmother is also strong and will be ok without him by her side.

It turns out that Prince Philip and the Queen have a shared sense of humor. Prince Harry explained, “There’s just that imbalance of, there’s everybody doing their absolute best because ‘oh, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are coming, let’s make sure we get everything absolutely right.’ Yet the two of them are going ‘I wonder if something’s going to go wrong this year! How exciting!'”

Prince Harry is far from the only royal involved in the new documentary which is titled, “Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers.” All of Prince Philip’s children and adult grandchildren participated in the documentary including Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

According to the BBC, “There are poignant recollections, plenty of humour and numerous fresh insights into the character and legacy of this royal pioneer.” In a statement, the BBC explained, “The documentary-makers have been inside Buckingham Palace to meet the Duke’s long-serving staff and to capture his study, private office and library, exactly as they were during his seven decades at the heart of royal life.”

The documentary was released in the UK on September 22, 2021. It is not yet known if or when the documentary will air in the US.
