People think that celebrities have it so easy, but being a spotlight in the media can be a really hard thing. You’re always being picked apart for just about everything—especially appearance. And if you look anything less than perfect, you may as well get used to seeing yourself in headline after headline on major news sites.

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker has recently been in the limelight for criticism of her age amid the ‘Sex & the City’ reboot and how she looked in the trailer for the film.

“It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly okay with where we are, as if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better,” she said. “I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop aging? Disappear?”

Former supermodel, Paulina Porizkova, who is the same age as Parker (56), recently posted to her Instagram to praise Parker for embracing the natural process of aging in the media.

“I’ve been seeing photos of Sarah Jessica Parker in the media, and every time I think ‘oh thank you thank you!’ Someone who is my age who looks like me,” Porizkova wrote under a photo of Parker and herself. “I see my lines and droops and silver roots mirrored, and I love it. Representation!”

With so many celebrities always competing to look young, Porizkova says Parker’s looks feel so refreshing to her. “She makes me feel like I’m not a freak for aging – because fashionable, beautiful, stylish her – is doing it too. And she looks amazing.”

Porizkova makes sure to explain that if you’re older and don’t choose to embrace the grays and wrinkles, that’s okay too. “This is not to in anyway slight those who chose different options,” she says. “You should do exactly what makes you feel best about yourself. That little whiff of confidence a tweak may give you can translate into a ton of opportunity. Carpe diem!”

The main takeaway? Older women don’t get a lot of love from the media, making other older celebrities feel like they’re not as celebrated either. “My point is only that aging women have been nearly erased from the media, leaving those of us who want to, or try or would at least try to embrace it – without much representation,” she writes.
