The Philadelphia Union Soccer Club have announced the sudden and tragic passing of goalkeeper Holden Trent. He was 25. In a statement released Saturday afternoon, the club confirmed his death, though there was no indication of the cause of death per Daily Mail.

Holden Trent, born on July 7, 1999, in Greensboro, North Carolina, was a talented goalkeeper for the Philadelphia Union. A standout athlete at High Point University, Trent was known for his agility and mental strength, serving as the starting goalkeeper for three seasons. In 2023, he was selected in the MLS SuperDraft and signed a contract with the Union, making five appearances for their second team, Union II.

Major League Soccer posted a tribute on X.

 

“Major League Soccer joins the Philadelphia Union and our entire soccer community in mourning the tragic passing of Union goalkeeper Holden Trent. A young goalkeeper with a bright future, Trent showcased determination and professionalism every day as he contributed to the close-knit goalkeeping unit at Philadelphia.”

“We extend our deepest condolences to his fiancée, his family and friends, his teammates and the entire Philadelphia Union community. MLS is coordinating with the club to provide players and family members with the resources and support they need during this tragic time.”

His family posted a tribute on Holden’s Instagram page.
