If you’re a mom, you probably know the feeling of doing just ANYTHING at all to make your kid happy, especially after a long day of tantrums. But then, even more things go wrong and it’s breakdown central.
That’s just what happened to one mom named Brittany Reed. The Ohio mom of two was having a frustrating evening when her 4-year-old refused to eat the red potatoes she made for dinner. She decided to give up trying to force her to eat them and get McDonald’s instead.
Except, when she arrived and ordered her meal at McDonald’s she realized something horrific: She left her purse at home and had no means of paying for the food.
“Welp now I wanted to cry,” Reed wrote in a now-viral social media post, with more than 560,000 shares. “I look at the young man [the cashier] with tears in my eyes just from being stressed and annoyed and say ‘hun I am so sorry but I have to cancel that order I left my purse at home.’”
Then the unthinkable happened. Reed watched as the man “without hesitation,” she noted, took out his wallet and swiped his credit card to pay for the meal.
She told the cashier, who she said was named Wyatt Jones, that she, of course, would pay him, but he said there was no need for that. And in that moment, she was so eternally grateful for the kindness of strangers.
“I just want his parents to know how KIND & COMPASSIONATE your son was tonight!” Reed wrote. “He made this stressed out momma pause for a moment and realize this is exactly what we parents are trying to do, raise great humans. Well Wyatt sir, you are an amazing human!!!”
Though Wyatt told her that he didn’t want her to pay him back, Reed did him one better. After learning a bit about him, and that he was saving up to buy a car, she created a GoFundMe account for him to be able to do just that.
After her post about Wyatt went viral, she was able to raise over $46,000, way more than her $5,000 goal! You can check it out or donate here. If this story doesn’t show the true power of human kindness, we don’t know what will! To hear more on Reed’s story, check out the video below.
