No-Heat Method for Curling Your Hair Overnight

When it comes to hairstyles, nothing’s as festive as curly hair! It’s too bad that it takes the damaging heat of a curling iron to really get those curls and waves, right? Wrong!

There’s actually an easy, no-heat way to get gloriously curly hair, and you can literally sleep right through it. Aunie Sauce is here to demonstrate the easy technique, adapted from a classically retro way of doing it.

The name of her no-heat technique? The Friar Tuck! Appropriately named because doing this technique makes you look like the famous Friar Tuck – just while your hair is setting, though, luckily not after it’s done.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • Brush
  • Sea Salt Spray (Optional)
  • Headband
  • Dry Shampoo (Optional)

To prep for the Friar Tuck, she does two very simple things. She starts by brushing out her natural, air-dried hair (she notes that she prefers using second-day hair, but that’s up to you) and then spritzing her locks with a sea salt spray.

Although the spray is optional, it will help to give your curls some amazing texture.

Next, she takes a stretchy headband and puts it on her head, over her hair. This sets her up to begin tucking her hair into the band. You’ll notice she starts at the front and goes back, slowly tucking about 1″ pieces of hair back into the band.

She does leave out two back pieces of hair on both sides of her head, and she uses these to secure the whole look. To see how she easily does this, make sure to watch the tutorial video below! It’s a very easy final step, promise.

When she’s done, she really does look like a friar! Her hair is tucked into a long twist all the way around her head, and all she has to do now is make sure everything is secure before heading off to bed.

If your tuck is a little mess, don’t worry! Messy curls/waves are all the rage, so don’t stress about every strand being perfect or frizz-free.

So, the big question, does the Friar Tuck actually work? Well, you’ll have to check out the video below to see the end result for yourself! But we think you’ll be very pleased with how amazing these vintage-inspired curls come out – and your hair will be pleased that this was an entirely heat-free process!
