“The Challenge” and “The Real World” alum Anika Rashaun has died at the age of 34.
The former MTV reality star died on Oct. 1, just weeks before what would have been her 35th birthday. Friends have since shared emotional tributes remembering Rashaun for her adventurous personality, loyalty and love for those closest to her.
Rashaun first became known to MTV viewers through “Real World Seattle: Bad Blood” before later competing on “The Challenge: Invasion of the Champions.” Away from television, she built a career focused on relationships, matchmaking and helping others.
Her Battle With Breast Cancer
Rashaun’s death came more than a year after she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
Her longtime friend Tiara Ramos revealed the diagnosis while paying tribute to Rashaun following her death. Ramos wrote that the diagnosis came as a shock, particularly because Rashaun’s mother had previously battled breast cancer.
Ramos described Rashaun as someone who refused to let life pass her by.
“She was always so unapologetically herself,” Ramos wrote, adding that Rashaun was “fiercely loyal and loving to the end.”
The two had been close for more than 20 years. Ramos said they supported each other through some of the most difficult moments of their lives and shared countless memories together.
“Anika was beautiful, inside and out. She was kind. She loved without limits,” Ramos wrote. “She loved life. She lived life.”
Her Start on ‘The Real World’
Rashaun was 24 when she appeared on the 2016-2017 season of “Real World Seattle: Bad Blood.”
The season featured cast members living together before being surprised by people from their pasts with whom they had unresolved problems.
Rashaun’s “bad blood” was her former boyfriend Will Groomes. The pair had previously dated for three years, and their complicated relationship became part of Rashaun’s storyline.
According to Deadline, Rashaun was a New York City native who later moved to Los Angeles following her time on “The Real World.” She used the following she gained from reality television to begin developing a lifestyle and relationship-focused brand.
Joining ‘The Challenge’
Rashaun returned to MTV in 2017 when she competed on “The Challenge: Invasion of the Champions.”
The competition series puts reality stars through demanding physical and mental challenges as they compete to remain in the game and win prize money.
Rashaun’s time on the show was brief, and she was eliminated during the third episode.
Still, her two MTV appearances became only one part of a much larger life.
Ramos remembered her friend as someone who constantly chased new experiences. She noted that Rashaun moved to Thailand without knowing anyone, appeared on reality television twice and even went skydiving on a first date.

Life After Reality TV
After leaving “The Challenge,” Rashaun continued building a career around dating and relationships.
She worked as a professional matchmaker and created ASKANIKA, a lifestyle, relationship and entertainment brand. She also worked as a dating coach and podcast host.
According to Deadline, Rashaun later attended school with the goal of becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist.
Her friend Ramos said Rashaun had an entrepreneurial side from an early age, recalling that she had been creating her own businesses since she was a little girl.
Finding Love With Husband Kyle
One of the biggest moments in Rashaun’s final year was marrying her husband, Kyle.
The couple tied the knot in San Marcos, California, on Valentine’s Day in February 2026.
Rashaun later celebrated the wedding on Instagram, calling the day “literally a dream” and saying she and Kyle “couldn’t imagine a more perfect day.”
Following her death, one friend remembered the wedding as “a fairytale” and spoke about the love Rashaun shared with her husband.
Ramos also acknowledged the devastating loss felt by Rashaun’s husband, parents and wider circle of loved ones.
