‘Matty In The Morning’ Radio Host Returns to the Air the Day After He ‘Snapped’
According to Matty Siegel, the worst thing you can say to a performer is to tell them what they can’t say. That’s his explanation for why he “snapped” during his radio show and appeared to quit on air.
Siegel has been the host of the Kiss 108’s radio show “Matty in the Morning” since 1981. According to Siegel, “I am the biggest of all time.” The comedian and radio host doesn’t like being told what he shouldn’t talk about, but that’s just what happened during the show on Wednesday May 19, 2021.
Earlier in the day, Demi Lovato had announced that she had come out at non-binary and officially changed their pronouns to “they” and “them.” The subject of Lovato’s announcement came up during Siegel’s talk show, so he talked about it and make jokes about it.
Siegel told Boston.com, “We were having fun with it, and my boss called up and said that I’d crossed the line and they didn’t want me talking about it anymore. I responded by saying, ‘If I can’t talk about what I’m thinking at this point in my career, I don’t want to be on the radio anymore.’”
Siegel made a rash decision. He told his listeners that he was leaving the radio show. He said, “I am the biggest of all time, and they said, ‘Shut up, Matt! Stop talking.’ Well, I hope you’re happy, because I just stopped talking. Matty out.” Then, Siegel left the show with 45 minutes of airtime remaining.

Siegel clarified to Boston.com that he isn’t mad at his boss. He said he understands why the show’s producers wanted him to stop talking. “They’re doing their jobs. I get it. They got a lot of heat this morning, people complaining about things I said on the air. He doesn’t want me to be fired. His heart was in the right place.” He also made it clear that the station does not want Siegel to quit the show. “They made it very clear that they don’t want me to leave.”
On Thursday morning, Siegel was indeed back on the show. He explained that he talked to the show’s producers, and they agreed that he could say whatever he wants to say. For more about why Siegel quit the show and then came back the very next day, watch the video below.
Does it surprise you that the producers agreed to let Siegel say whatever he wants to say on his radio show? Do you think Siegel crossed a line when he joked about Lovato’s announcement?
