Stories of grief and loss are never necessarily easy to hear, but I think that we can all agree that they are important to share. Take Kevin, for instance; he lost his mother to cancer 16 years ago and ever since, he has made it his mission to honor her memory by growing out his hair for charity. By the time he appears on the Rachel Ray Show, he is long overdue for a drastic hair makeover.
Kevin initially decided to keep his hair long when his mother was undergoing cancer treatments and, subsequently, had to shave her head. Kevin explains that, after his mother eventually succumbed to her illness, he made the generous decision to grow his hair out as long as possible, and give it to the charity Locks of Love.
Within those sixteen years, Kevin had already cut and re-grown his hair three times, but it’s now time for him to cut off another foot or so. What Not to Wear host Stacy London helps facilitate the full makeover, which also includes an update to his rock ‘n roll fashion aesthetic.
Prior to the change, Kevin voices some of his concerns about changing up his look. He tells the audience, “I’m nervous, because I haven’t seen what I look like in many years!” Wow, we don’t blame him one bit!
Before the clothing makeover, Rachel and Stacy decide to give the studio audience a little sneak peak of what Kevin’s final result is going to look like. While holding onto his wife Toni’s hand, Stacy put his “luxurious” (her words, not mine!) hair into a pony tail and makes the first chop, just below the nape of his neck, before he is sent backstage to receive the rest of his glamorous transformation.
Before the final reveal, Stacy, Rachel, and Toni chat a bit about what they think Kevin’s reaction to his new look will be. Stacy says, “Kevin is just a lovely human being. He was so easy to work with, and I really—I hope he loves the way he looks, ‘cause I do!” She then quickly turns to Kevin’s wife Toni and says, “I hope you love it, too!” Yup, that’s pretty important!
So, before we discuss this amazing reveal, let’s turn the spotlight to the hero of our story’s charity of choice—Locks of Love. For those of you who aren’t aware of this organization, it’s goal is to provide hair pieces to sick children at no cost to their families. If a person cuts off a minimum of 10 inches of hair, the charity will usually be able to take it. What a great cause!
Now, getting back to Kevin… We’ve got to be honest here. This really is one of the most remarkable transformations we’ve seen in a long time! You’ve got to watch the video below to see him go from “biker” to “dapper gentleman.” Truly incredible!
