Let Go of the Cost of Cable, But Not Your Favorite Shows

Does it ever seem like your cable bill keeps rising but you don’t have any more channels than you did before? If you are having a hard time justifying the cost of cable just to watch a few of your favorite shows, then it might be time to investigate some alternatives.

The first step is to make a list of shows that you watch and then get online. Many major networks such as NBC, ABC and MTV stream their current content for free. Other websites such as HuluHulu and TV.com stream TV and movies from over 350 content companies at no cost. Even better, there are fewer commercials to sit through!

There are some inexpensive pay options if your must-see program isn’t offered for free online. Netflix and Hulu Plus offer unlimited online viewing subscriptions for about $7.99 per month each. Amazon and iTunes both offer TV episodes and movies for purchase or one-time rental.

If you aren’t interested in being tied to your computer all evening, then pull out your gaming console. Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii all have streaming capabilities. Some newer Blu-ray players and TVs also have the ability to stream digital content. The Roku Digital Video Player, Apple TV, Logitech Revue and the Boxee Box are all devices made for streaming content to your television.

Don’t forget about the good old antenna. Today you need a digital antenna to pick up broadcast television and AntennaWeb is the best resource for finding out which network signals can be picked up in your neighborhood.
