KFC Is Pulling Its Famous ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’ Slogan Because of COVID-19

One of the first pieces of advice we heard when COVID-19 made its way known was to avoid putting our hands near our mouths. This was one of the top ways to spread the virus, after all.

Ironically, Kentucky Fried Chicken’s slogan is “Finger Lickin’ Good,” a phrase that basically tells you to stick your fingers in your mouth.

And sure, under normal circumstances, we’d love to lick our fingers clean of the fast-food joint’s delicious fried chicken and mashed potatoes. But the slogan just doesn’t quite work given the state of the world right now.

That’s why they’ve decided to do away with the 64-yaear-old saying—just temporarily until it feels a bit more appropriate.

“We find ourselves in a unique situation—having an iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment,” said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, global chief marketing officer in a statement hilariously titled “And the winner for the award for the most inappropriate slogan for 2020 goes to…KFC.”

In the statement, Tan-Gillespie also reassures fans that removing the slogan in no way means the food at KFC is any less delicious. “While we are pausing the use of It’s Finger Lickin’ Good, rest assured the food craved by so many people around the world isn’t changing one bit,” she noted. “We’re still going to be providing Finger Lickin’ Good chicken and a responsible experience for our amazing team members and guests around the world.”

She also noted that the slogan will come be making a comeback at some point “when the time is right.” As of right now, there haven’t been any mentions of new slogans to put in its place.
