Bush’s song “Climbing up that Hill” was originally released in 1985. Now, in 2022, 37 years later, the song has reached number 1 in Australia and in the U.K. Meanwhile, in the U.S., the song has broken into the top 5 on the Billboard charts.

Bush has not rerecorded the song. She has not changed anything about the song. The reason for the song’s recent and unexpected success has to do with the show “Stranger Things.” The song was recently featured on the show, and as a result, it has become more popular than ever.

Bush is pleasantly surprised at the recent success of her 1985 song, and she credits it all to the creators of “Stranger Things,” brothers Matt and Ross Duffer. On her website, Bush wrote, “By featuring Running Up That Hill in such a positive light – as a talisman for Max (one of the main female characters) – the song has been brought into the emotional arena of her story. Fear, conflict and the power of love are all around her and her friends.” She added, “I salute the Duffer Brothers for their courage – taking this new series into a much more adult and darker place. I want to thank them so much for bringing the song into so many people’s lives.”

In addition, Bush explained that she’s “overwhelmed” by how much attention the song is suddenly receiving. She wrote, “It’s all happening really fast, as if it’s being driven along by a kind of elemental force. I have to admit I feel really moved by it all. Thank you so very much for making the song a No 1 in such an unexpected way.”
