Mini Rocker Slays Classic Tune

One of those songs that’s been covered time and time again is Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence”. Written in 1964, the lyrics are haunting and intense, and the song seems to find its way among the most mature of voices on singing competitions and YouTube.

That’s why when the world caught wind of Jadyn Rylee’s version, people let out a collective “Whoa”. The 11-year-old girl from Canada is a YouTube darling. Singing since age six, Jadyn is known for dropping cover versions of songs on her channel by artists like Dolly Parton, George Michael, and Metallica. Metallica, folks.

In fact, it was her cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” that earned her nearly 2 million views and the attention of the band itself. Recently, the young songstress put her own spin on Simon and Garfunkel’s hit, giving it a new twist.

As a singer, having the ability to capture the emotion in a song is a sign of a true talent. At 11, Jadyn’s voice has both a raw and pure quality to it that carries the weight of a song’s lyrics. As soon as you hear her sing “Hello darkness, my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again”, she’s nailed the melancholy tone of the tune.

Jadyn is joined by another rocking girl phenom, Sina, who is backing her up on the drums. Listen to how her voice dips higher and lower over the melody with the maturity of a seasoned adult vocalist. It’s when she digs into the third verse that you get to hear Jadyn’s amazing vocal range. Beautiful!

She and Sina continue to build up a fiery feeling with the song, making it hard to believe that these are two young kids. Their natural talent is otherworldly, and Jadyn not only has an incredible voice, but a control over her tone and pitch that is unique for her age. There are plenty of adults who wouldn’t be able to tackle a song like this.

Keep watching to hear Jadyn blaze through this song, and be sure to pay special attention to her facial expressions. You can tell she is pulling her sound out from someplace deep. She shared this video on YouTube a little over a month ago, and it’s already racked up nearly 3,000,000 views. For a song that’s over fifty years old, young Jadyn’s take on it has impressed throngs of people across multiple generations.

Jadyn’s current plans include participating in a project for Mini Pop Kids, which produces cover versions of pop hits. She’s also keeping the rock classics coming on her YouTube channel, with the latest being Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way”. It’s pretty cool to see kids her age getting into older music and putting their own brand of flavor on it. With her skills, Jadyn’s got a bright musical future ahead of her.
