Marriage isn’t easy to begin with, but Hollywood marriages are notoriously difficult to sustain. Between the challenging schedules and the pressures that fame can put on a relationship, it’s no surprise that we see the messy divorces of our favorite stars plastered across the cover of magazines frequently.

So, when we see a couple that’s been through the Hollywood ringer and still comes out the other side still in love, we can’t help but admire their relationship!

One prime example? Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney. The long-time couple recently had a chance to revisit the start of their romance on the red carpet of this year’s Emmy Awards – the same place their relationship began 30 years before.

In the 1980’s, Burke and McRaney were both working on separate television careers. Burke was working on the second season of her sitcom, Designing Women, when she guest starred on Simon & Simon, the show that her husband-to-be was the star on.

Right away, McRaney knew he had to make his feeling known to Burke, since so many other actors and Hollywood were pursuing her.

“I wasn’t going to let her get away,” McRaney, now 70, explained. “I already had competition. There were people asking her out on dates, and I was going to move in right away.”

But just HOW quickly he “moved in” might shock you – McRaney asked Burke to marry him on their second date. Soon after, the two were spotted on the red carpet for the 1987 Emmy Awards, looking blissfully happy.

The couple tied the knot just two years later, in 1989.

For almost 30 years, the couple has been there for each other through thick and thin. One of the biggest struggles has been coping with Burke’s fluctuating weight, due to her Type II diabetes and battles with depression.

Burke said that her husband has been endlessly supportive, who she credits for helping her “bounce back.”

“He reminds me what I should be doing or shouldn’t be eating,” She told People. “He likes to give me my (insulin) shots and says it makes him feel like he’s taking care of me.”

Now, McRaney is back into the spotlight thanks to the hit show, This is Us. Although the actor has kept up a pretty incredible career (between The West Wing, Deadwood, House of Cards, and Justified) this network hit has been HUGE, and McRaney’s role as “Dr. K” won him a Primetime Emmy.

After winning his award, he took to the after-show interviews to tell the story of him and his lovely wife.

“As a man, I’ve had the love of the finest woman I could possibly imagine,” McRaney told reporters.

We have a sense that the feeling is mutual! In a world of seemingly endless heartbreaking, public divorces we turn to wonderful couples like this for inspiration and hope.
