If you’ve been home more often than usual over the past few months, chances are you’ve also watched Netflix more often than usual. While binge-watching has been a pastime for awhile now, the coronavirus pandemic has made it even more popular.
Many concerts, sporting events, live theater and other popular entertainment events have been canceled. Combine that with the recommendation to stay home to avoid contracting and spreading the coronavirus, and you have many people searching online for some form of entertainment.
For those of us that turn to Netflix for entertainment, after months of watching recommended shows and movies, it can feel like you’ve reached the end of Netflix. We’re here to tell you that there are many TV shows and movies hiding on Netflix that you have most likely never seen. You just have to know where to look.
First of all, let’s talk about what shows and TV shows you see when you select your profile. If you have more than one person in your household, you have probably already set up a profile for each person. You’ve probably noticed that Netflix shows each person different categories and suggestions about what to watch next. These suggestions are based on data the streaming service collects based on what you have already watched and enjoyed. For example, Netflix might recommend “Llama Llama” for my children and “Fuller House” for me.
Data is not always accurate, and while Netflix is trying to help you easily find new shows and movies you’ll enjoy, you may find yourself scrolling through their suggestions and not finding anything you actually want to watch. What do you do?
You can mix things up and check out an entirely new genre, one that Netflix had no idea to even recommend. Netflix has many, many different genres filled with amazing movies and TV shows. You just need to know the code for the genre you want to see.
First, log into your Netflix account. Then, in your browser type “https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/” and after “genre” type the code for the genre you want to see. For example, if you want to find something educational for your kids to watch, use code 10659. That means you would type https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/10659
While it’s nearly impossible to list every single genre code available, here is a good list to get you started.
