Guy Fieri is on the mend after a painful and unexpected accident sent him into emergency surgery.

Per E!News, the Food Network star tore his quad muscle after missing a set of stairs, causing one leg to shoot forward while the other got caught on a threshold. The awkward split-like position put extreme pressure on his right leg, leading to a severe tear in one of the thickest parts of the muscle.

Doctors told him the injury was so intense that it was a rare type of tear, one they seldom see. To prevent the muscle from receding and causing long-term damage, he had to undergo surgery right away.

Fieri, 57, is now recovering and focusing on healing after the frightening mishap.

“You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone,” Fieri said to Fox News Digital, “but this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle and it explode.”

The Guy’s Grocery Games host, now relying on a wheelchair and crutches, was filming his upcoming series Flavor Town Food Fight when the accident occurred. The injury brought production to a halt and forced the cast and crew to quickly adjust, reshaping the way the show moved forward while Fieri focused on recovery.

We’ve got everybody in town and all the chefs there and 125 people on set and everybody’s ready to go, and I’m in surgery,” Guy revealed. “So, we figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques. But it’s been a run, and now I’m up here at the ranch, where it’s always about hiking and outdoors, and you know, beautiful.”

For the time being, the Food celebrity must avoid putting any weight on his injured leg for eight weeks, after which he’ll begin the rehabilitation process.

“I want to get after it as fast as possible,” he said. “He’s like, ‘You know as much as you want to, get back to being Guy, you’re going to really have to go through it.'”

“I haven’t busted anything,” he went on. “I mean I broke it all as a kid. I broke my leg, broke my knee, broke my wrist, broke my sternum, my ribs, my tailbone. I mean, you know, name it, I broke it. But I got done doing that s–t. You know, I got done with that type of behavior long ago.”
