There are roughly 2.6 million folks serving tables in the United States today. If you are–or were at one time–one of them, then you know that the job requires much more than just taking orders and delivering meals. Unfortunately, you’re also forced to deal with some really tough customers–and we’re not just talking about those needy ones who will eat their whole plate of food only to request a refund because they “didn’t like it.” Or, the ones who receive exemplary service but feel that it’s totally fine to skip out on the tip.

Believe it or not, that happens!

But, what we’re going to talk about today is one of the worst aspects of waiting tables that too many working in the profession have unfortunately experienced–harassment. To highlight this disturbing reality, we’re sharing a video that stars a Georgia waitress who was inappropriately touched by a customer.

The security footage shows a man grab the waitress’ bottom as he walks past her. When he does this, the waitress, 21-year-old Emelia Holden, immediately spins around and defends herself against the perv. Now, it’s important to note that she doesn’t just give this dude smack on the face. She wrestles him. Straight to the ground.

After the incident took the place, the cops were called and the gentleman (not!) who committed the crime, 31-year-old Ryan Cherwinski of Palm Bay, Florida, was arrested and charged with sexual battery. According to sources, he tried to get away with the crime by saying that he simply “brushed past” the waitress, but security footage showed the contrary.

Lucky for us–and maybe, unlucky for Cherwinski–the security footage has been posted online, and it’s obvious to all who watch it that the man does, in fact, assault the unsuspecting waitress.

But, because the Internet is the Internet, after all, we have to report that there has been some very unfortunate backlash directed to the person who absolutely did nothing to deserve it–the victim, Emelia Holden.

According to an interview conducted by Inside Edition, the 21-year-old has been bombarded with rude, sexist comments from the worst type of Internet trolls around. Here’s what one Twitter user wrote: “Puts it all on display then goes absolutely beserk when some drunk guy takes the bait.”

Another “charmer” wrote this: “Women who walk around half naked are clearly looking for male attention so why act like that when they get it?”

Ugh. We have a long way to as a society, don’t we?

That said, most of the comments that Holden has received have been quite positive. “I’ve gotten a lot of messages from people telling me how they showed their daughters and how proud of me everyone is,” she told Inside Edition. “It’s really empowering and inspiring. I got a lot of messages from parents saying they’ve shown their daughters, they think I’m a hero it’s very rewarding and reassuring.”
