With Some Pool Noodles and a Plastic Tub, You Can Turn Your Backyard Pool into a Tasty Oasis

Sorry to say it, but summer is ticking to a close. It’s sad but true. But just because we only have a few weeks of summer heat left to enjoy, that doesn’t mean it’s time to close up the pool! We would argue it’s ideal to spend MORE time in the pool. And now you can enjoy pool weather even more with this clever little DIY! All you need is a pool noodle to get started on your very own floating cooler. This is the perfect addition to a pool party for friends and family, to keep the kids’ juice boxes cold, or to keep a few wine spritzers for you floating nearby. Pool time just got a little cooler. Watch the video below to see how you can make this simple project in minutes.

You will be shocked when you see how simple this project is! You only need three materials that you can easily pick up at any store and a few minutes of your time. And the end result is a useful and adorable cooler your party guests will love.

Materials

  • Pool noodle
  • Rope
  • Plastic container

Step 1: Cut a pool noodle into four sides.
Step 2: String rope through the noodles to keep them together. Knot in one corner.
Step 3: Stick the plastic container up through the square, so it’s wedged in the pieces of noodles.
Step 4: Fill with ice and drinks. Enjoy!

In total, this project costs about $3 for only three items. We’d wager it only takes about three minutes to make, too!

Try to measure out the length of the container you’ve chosen so you can cut the pool noodle sides to the correct length. Because the noodle material is so flexible, it’s best if the square is a little smaller than the container; it can squeeze right in and stay put in the pool.
