Jimmy Fallon’s Weird Family Tweets Are All Of Us

We can all relate to having oddball relatives and quirky family habits. To outsiders, they seem strange; to you, they’re strange but tolerable. For example: the aunt who insists on clipping her fingernails with scissors, or the uncle who tells uncle-type jokes – at funerals. You know you like sitting next to him.

We could go on. Being able to compare notes with others let you know you’re not alone! On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy has a weekly bit where he uses Twitter to send out a hashtag topic. Folks tweet in their responses based on the hashtag, which can be ridiculously hilarious. This time the topic was “#MyFamilyIsWeird”. Social media enthusiasts had a field day with this one.

Think about your own family and you can imagine the types of replies that poured in. In the video, you may notice that some people aren’t able to keep up with tech. What’s funny is when they try to be savvy – with or without help – and the results are the stuff family stories are made of. One young lady shared that her grandfather turns three TVs on to the same channel with the volume up, calling it “surround sound”.

Another Twitter user sent this in:

There are many lonely Facebook updates and posts that don’t get any love at all. But hey, as long as the aunt’s not trolling herself, it might not be too bad. Something tells us she’s probably not the only one in the world doing this either.

This guy’s family has their own birthday tradition:

“We celebrate the dog’s birthday every year, which is also my birthday. We have to share one bone-shaped cake. #MyFamilyIsWeird”

It makes you think about people whose birthdays fall on Christmas and get stuck with the two birds-one stone treatment. I’m not sure if I’d be more upset about having to share a bone-shaped cake or the fact it could never be chocolate. Poor guy!

This gem tweeted by SamanthaLynn13 makes you wonder how many other west coast experiences the family might have missed out on:

Hopefully, someone broke the news to her that it wouldn’t be a problem, even if they were only visiting. On a side note, this is the perfect set-up for a good “your mom” joke.

Click on the video below to listen to more funny hashtags and take comfort in the fact that you’re not the only one living in the land of strange. You can’t help but crack up along with Jimmy. That made-up song your family sings every time someone belches may not be so bad. And now, I also understand that our auntie who loves to mail clipped coupons as birthday gifts is in good company.

Embrace your weird: the grannies, the dads, the brothers, and the offbeat traditions. The charming, obnoxious, embarrassing, and eccentric but sometimes creepy weird bonds us all together! Which of these Twitter users can you relate to the most? What about your kinfolk would you tag as #MyFamilyIsWeird? Share with us in the comments!
