While many people have spent the pandemic binge watching TV, working from home, putting together puzzles and helping their kids with school, some people have gotten a little more creative.
When you own a company that has been drastically impacted by lockdown orders, it only makes sense that you would think about how your company is not only going to survive but thrive. For example, one breakfast restaurant in Ohio installed shower curtains between tables to comply with guidelines for reopening.
If you think that is creative, just wait.
In Maryland, a company called Revolution Event & Design saw their business disappear during the pandemic. Erin Cermak, Revolution’s founder and CEO, told The Baltimore Sun, “When COVID hit, we found ourselves with a lot of time on our hands because people aren’t exactly booking events in the immediate future.” With all that extra time, Cermak started thinking about life after lockdown and came up with a very creative idea.
“We wanted to come up with a creative and fun way to keep everyone safe and compliant, but still bring back the social and festive and party aspect of the event. So we’ve been working on a number of different products, and this is the first one that we’re launching.”
What is “this” that she’s referring to? The company is calling them “bumper tables.” The tables are made out of inner tubes, and they’re designed to keep people 6 feet away from each other while still allowing them to socialize. Plus, you have your own personal table, which makes it perfect for an event or bar setting. Watch the video below to see them in action.
Cermak’s cousin, Donna Harman, owns a restaurant in Ocean City with her husband Shawn. The restaurant is called Fish Tales, and they gave the bumper tables a spin over the weekend. Since the restaurant is currently closed for dine-in business, friends and family tried out the new tables, which got a lot of attention from passers by who wanted to try them out too.
Each table is 38-inches tall and is designed for people ranging in height from 4’10” to 6’2”. A standard table costs $400, but if you want it customized, that’s $500 per table. The tables can also be rented for $200 per day. Cermak says she has gotten calls from places as far away as Malaysia expressing interest in ordering tables.
What do you think of these new bumper tables? Would you use one at a bar or event?
