Japanese Couple Married for 38 Years Reached Viral Fame by Wearing Matching Outfits Every Day
It takes a whole lot of work, faith, and, most, of all, LOVE for a marriage to last–especially in this age of divorce! Now, we don’t want to be labeled as being pessimistic, but it’s fair to assume that a good half of marriages end in divorce these days because couples are just not as bonded as they should be.
It’s a sad truth, but one that does not necessarily translate to all couples, or even all cultures for that matter. Take Tsuyoshi and Tomi Seki. This Japanese husband and wife duo have been happily married for a whopping 38 years! So, how do these college sweethearts keep things fresh? According to them, getting dressed together helps!
You see, the couple, also known by their Instagram handle, Bonpon511, makes sure to dress in matching outfits every single day. In an interview with The Guardian, the couple says that they practice this form of aesthetic bonding in order to reflect their unity, but to also “complement [their] surroundings.”
As mentioned, these two fashion plates have been dressing alike, completely under the radar for years, but it wasn’t until their daughter posted a snapshot of them to her Instagram account did they gain massive popularity. Currently, Tsuyoshi and Tomi have amassed an impressive following of over 750,000 followers on the one social media platform alone.
Their meteoric rise to fame has given them plenty of new ways to interact with one another–and, now, the world. The two have launched a clothing line of “couples outfits” with Isetan Mitsukoshi and are even penning books about retirement and style.
But, success aside, the duo asserts that they are much more about promoting mindset than fashion. “Now we’re on our own and finally have the time to do all the things we didn’t have the time to do when we were raising a family and working,” Tomi said. “We want to show that retirement can be a lot of fun, especially if you find something you enjoy doing together.”
We can’t wait to hear your take on this adorable couple! Are you a fan of Tsuyoshi and Tomi’s matching outfits? Do you do something similar with your significant other? Do you have any advice for making happy marriages last?
