Even though face masks can help prevent us from getting sick, some people still refuse to wear them. When it comes to little kids, we understand. It can be very difficult and even unsafe for a baby to wear a face mask, so kids under 2 are an exception to face mask rules.

There has been one other exception to face mask requirements in many locations. People with medical conditions could use that as an excuse not to wear a face mask, but unfortunately, some people abused this policy. For example, one woman claimed that her ovarian cyst prevented her from being able to breathe through a face mask. 

One Costco shopper who refused to wear a face mask had his cart taken away from him by one of the store’s employees. He was basically kicked out of the store for not complying with the store’s policy. He didn’t even try to claim a medical exemption. He just refused to wear a mask.

Costco used to allow members to shop at the store if they had a medical condition that prevented them from wearing a face mask, but that policy is about to change. Starting November 16, 2020, anyone who enters Costco who is age 2 or older will be required to wear a face mask or a face shield. 

Costco President and CEO Craig Jelinek told members in a letter, “This updated policy may seem inconvenient to some, however we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience. Our goal is to continue to provide a safe shopping environment for our members and guests, and to provide a safe work environment for our employees.”

Costco members who don’t want to wear a face mask are welcome to shop online and have their purchases delivered.
