Why a Mom Had to Capture This Precious Moment of a Brother Singing to His Newborn Sister

It’s no secret that some children do not exactly react favorably when they meet their baby brother or sister—and for good reason. It can be truly devastating when they realize that they will have to start sharing their parents’ time and attention!

Though we certainly understand the emotional struggles that comes with having a new baby in the house, we like to focus on the positive side of the issue. You see, it’s not every day that you witness an older sibling embrace the presence of their baby brother or sister, but when it does, we feel like there is definitely reason to celebrate.

Take this set of siblings, for instance. Instead of dismissing the presence of his new infant sister, this mature preschooler actually rejoices in it by breaking out into song!

This viral clip starts with the youngster carefully cradling his newborn sis in his arms. His attention is focused right smack dab on her pudgy little face, while he sings to her the incredibly apropos “You Are So Beautiful.”

Sure, he can’t quite get a handle on all of those confusing lyrics, but the intention is there, and that’s all that matters! As the mini-crooner makes his way through that iconic chorus, he rubs her face, belly, and arms as she smiles up at him.

The sight is almost too cute to bear; you can tell that this kid really thinks the world of this special little baby. And what he says to his mom at the end is really the kicker—it just about melted our hearts!

Why you should start singing to your baby today

The little guy in the video certainly has the right idea when it comes to singing to his newborn sister.

Not only does it add some sweet music to the house, experts like Sally Goddard Blythe, a consultant in neuro-developmental education and director of the institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology, say that singing to little ones before they learn how to speak is “an essential precursor to later educational success and emotional well-being.”

In her book The Genius of Natural Childhood, Blythe goes on to argue that “song is a special type of speech” which helps develop both sides of the brain.

Her overall point is that singing songs or reciting nursery rhymes to a newborn might be an innate biological urge that we carry in order to help our babies develop into well-rounded individuals. Pretty incredible stuff!
