We could all use a tropical vacation, couldn’t we? Laying out on a towel under the sun on a beautiful beach with a piña colada in hand…what could be better?
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made travel nearly impossible for most of us. So that beach you’re dreaming about? It might just stay just that—a dream.
Instead, we remain cooped up in our living rooms, working from home for the unforeseeable future. Unless you’re an essential employee, you’ve probably been a remote worker for quite some time now, and have grown totally bored by your home (and haven’t changed your pants in a few days, but we’re not judging that).
If this sounds like you, then you’re going to want to keep reading. The government in the tropical land of Barbados actually completely understands where we’re coming from and is offering a deal of a lifetime.
Barbados is offering a chance for people who work from home, and who are craving a change of scenery, to come to Barbados for an entire year and work from the beach instead.
This special visa for remote workers, called the12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp, would “allow people from the United States, Europe, and Latin America to come and do their jobs digitally for a couple of months and then go back home if they feel they can work better in a more relaxed atmosphere such as next to a beach,” said Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.
That’s right—at a time when travel feels restricted as ever, you can literally up and move to a beautiful island and start a new life there.
Imagine your new morning routine: Instead of rolling out of bed and opening your laptop as you shove a spoonful of cereal in your mouth at your dining room table, wake up every morning on the beach, enjoying a cup of coffee as you dip your toes in the water. (Plus, you won’t have to make your Zoom call background a fake picture of the beach because you’ll actually be on one!)
Interested? The visa is currently in its final stages of development, but you can learn more about on the country’s government website.
In addition, if you’re just looking for a more temporary escape, air travel for international travelers to Barbados has since recommenced since the pandemic began, and JetBlue and American Airlines will begin their flights out July 25 and August 5, respectively.
What a chance of a lifetime! Are you bored sitting in the confines of your home working? Would you rather work on the tropical beach of Barbados? Do you think this is an opportunity you might take advantage of?
