Amanda Bynes Speaks Out for the First Time Since Filing To End Her Nine-Year Conservatorship

Amanda Bynes hasn’t been on social media in years, but that recently changed. Just three days ago, she opened a new Instagram account, and her very first post was a video where she talked to the camera about her upcoming conservatorship court date.

In the video, Bynes said, “What’s up, Instagram? Amanda Bynes here. My court date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all so much for your love and support. Peace out.” Then she held up a peace sign with her right hand.

Bynes tagged news sources US Weekly, PEOPLE and E News in the video. She apparently wanted her video and new Instagram account to get some attention.

BuzzFeed News reached out to Bynes’ attorney to verify that the social media account is really Bynes’ account, and he said that it is. Yes, people, Bynes looks a little different than she did back when she was a child star, but we’ve all changed over the years, am i right?

Bynes was originally placed in a court ordered conservatorship in 2013 after she started a fire in a driveway. Her mother, Lynn Bynes, was appointed to be her conservator.

In 2020, Bynes took advantage of the buzz about Britney Spears’ conservatorship to bring attention to her own conservatorship. At the time, she said she thinks she should be able to go to a therapist who takes her insurance instead of paying $5200 each month for a treatment center.

A judge ruled that Bynes should remain in the conservatorship until 2023, but Bynes wants to be free now. Unlike Spears’ case, Bynes parents agree with her and support her decision to end the conservatorship. According to her parents’ attorney, they will not be attending the virtual hearing, but they agree with her that it’s time for the conservatorship to end.

In February 2022, Bynes filed a petition to end her conservatorship. Since then, fans have been very supportive, and the hashtag #FreeAmanda has been trending on Twitter.

Do you think Bynes will be able to successfully end her conservatorship? Until she filed a petition to end the conservatorship, did you even know she was in a conservatorship?
