A bride-to-be has a lot of options when planning a wedding, like the venue, the caterer, whether to hire a DJ or a band. The list goes on; however, some people like to break tradition.

We’ve seen some interesting twists on tradition when it comes to weddings, receptions and even honeymoons. For example, some bridesmaids are walking down the aisle holding cotton candy or puppies instead of bouquets. Some couples are choosing to go on a vacation by themselves (a solomoon) instead of a honeymoon with their new spouse after the wedding.

While those are two examples of strong breaks to tradition, we’ve now heard of a new trend that’s almost like creating a new tradition. The wedding reception burro.

Say what?

You heard that right. Burro, as in donkey. Every modern wedding reception needs one, especially if you’re getting married in Texas or Northern California.

Texas Hill Country Events started training mini donkeys to serve beer at wedding receptions when a nearby venue suggested it. They started with two donkeys, a male named John Wayne and a female named Annie Oakley. The company now has 6 burros available for all kinds of events.

Your team of burros will arrive at your event 30 minutes prior to their time to greet your guests! They will then mix and mingle passing drinks and/or snacks to your guests. They have a beautiful neck wreath that they wear or you can provide any props you have to go along with the theme of your event. They can also be a walking photo booth for your event, just add the polaroid package to your contract.

Over in Northern California, Little Burro Events has donkeys “dressed to impress” and available for weddings in the Napa, Sonoma and San Francisco Bay Area. Not only can these burros serve beer, but they can also act as ring bearers and selfie stations.

We used to think seeing little kids all dressed up at weddings was super cute, but these mini donkeys just might be even cuter.

There are two burros available, Burrito and Zoey. Little Burro Events describes the mini donkeys as “incredibly docile and loving animals that enjoy attention and will sit in your lap if you let them.”

What do you think about the idea of miniature donkeys at a wedding? Does it sound super cute or incredibly weird?
