8 Beautiful Countries You Can Visit on a College Budget

In my mind, one of the most fulfilling and rewarding things you can do in your life is to travel. Travel everywhere and experience as much as you can of what the world has to offer. If money were no object, I’d travel once a month just to experience new culture on a normal basis. However, unfortunately, having the money to travel is essential. But luckily, there are beautiful and exciting countries we can travel to without spending much money at all (especially if you can get a great flight deal or use miles).

Thailand

Many tourism companies have recently been offering great deals for travel in and to Thailand. And you don’t even have to stay in a hostel for cheap accomodations. You can get a private room with a bathroom for less than 30 USD per day.

Portugal

If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to Barcelona, then Lisbon is an excellent choice. And if you’re looking to stay out of the city, then surfers and families alike will certainly enjoy the Algarve region of Portugal.

Greece

Greece could certainly use the help when it comes to their economic condition. And since their economy largely relies on tourism, you’ll find low prices when it comes to places to stay, eat and play in Greece. In fact, many believe that beautiful Greece is one of the best spots in Europe for cheap, enjoyable travel.

Shanghai

Though there are definitely pricey options for a trip to Shanghai, you can take advantage of “no nonsense” dorms for $10/night, enjoy great street food, and get around this very walkable city while spending very little money.

Costa Rica

Especially when traveling from the US, Costa Rica has one of the cheapest international airfare costs. And the prices within the country are very reasonable as well.

Nepal

This tropical country is full of great food, a rich history, and beautiful landscapes. If you’re the backpacking type, you’ll love a relaxing vacation in Nepal, and you shouldn’t have to pay more than 25 USD per day.

Argentina

Buenos Aires is of course known for it’s vibrant nightlife, but Argentina is also a great place to go to relax and enjoy some gorgeous views. You can spend a very frugal vacation here staying in hostels, bussing around and eating the inexpensive local cuisine.

Vietnam

Even with the rise in tourism in Vietnam in recent years, the country is still very cheap to visit. You shouldn’t expect to pay more than 20 USD per day while staying here.
