Watch These 5 Girls in Pigtails Bring Down the House!

Even if we don’t want to admit it out loud, many performances of “The Star Spangled Banner” aren’t stellar—to say the least! Look, we’re not trying to knock any singers out there; it’s just an incredibly hard song to pull off. You really have to hit all of those high notes! That’s why we are sharing a truly incredible version of the national anthem for you, from vocalists that are completely unexpected!

This 2008 video of Lubbock, Texas’ all-girl singing group, The Cactus Cuties, has gained so much popularity over the years that it has been watched well over 10 million times. Even if you’ve seen this heart-stopping rendition before, you may not know enough background to appreciate just how impressive this performance is!

For one, these five adorable, pig-tailed girls are all under the age of 13 YEARS OLD! Yes, I’ll give you some time so you can let that sink in. Their vocal skills aren’t just good for their age; they’re astonishingly mature beyond their years!

The very youngest girl in the line is only 8 years-old, but she appears so confident and poised up there, singing in front of a packed stadium. Absolutely incredible!

And don’t let those Shirley Temple curls fool you—though these little ones look absolutely delightful in their country-inspired overalls, their harmonies really do pack a punch! It’s clear that all of them take their jobs very seriously!

So, who are The Cactus Cuties anyways? They are a group of talented young singers (obviously!) who were assembled by Cami Caldwell, who serves as the Artistic Director at The Cactus Theater in Lubbock, Texas.

In the group’s online bio, Caldwell explains that after playing several civic shows, the powerful young girl group was asked to perform the national anthem at a local women’s college basketball game. That particular event is the video that this post is all about! It is also the one that launched them into star-spangled super stardom!

After the video began getting so much attention, The Cactus Cuties were invited to perform in a variety of professional events, including sports games for the NBA, MLB, and NFL, as well as on television shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show and Rachael Ray.

But the most amazing invitation came from none other than the president himself. In 2008, President George W. Bush had the girls sing in a private holiday ceremony at The White House!

Today, The Cactus Cuties seem to be relatively inactive, but their viral rendition of America’s song is still going strong—even 8 years later!

Watch the YouTube video below to see these seriously gifted girls sing their hearts out. We promise, you’ve never heard The Star Spangled Banner quite like this before!
