While there are those celebrities that set a great example when it comes to handling their money well, there are countless others who do the exact opposite. These stars who struggle financially teach us a lesson we’ve repeated over and over on Tip Hero: having a lot of money is awesome, but you won’t be truly rich until you live below your means.

Here are some celebrities that live or have lived beyond their means and have suffered the consequences:

Toni Braxton

This singer’s problems are in currently in the spotlight as she stars in her family’s new reality TV show on WE TV. She filed for bankruptcy for the second time last year and owes up to $50 million to companies like AT&T, Tiffany, and the Four Seasons. She’s also been in trouble with the IRS due to unpaid taxes. These are definitely not things to be proud of and flaunt to the public, but Braxton does so on a weekly basis.

Stephen Baldwin

The youngest Baldwin brother filed for bankruptcy in 2009, revealing that he suffered from more than $2 million in debt. Stephen has starred in a lot of reality TV shows and has frequently been a media spokesperson, but his financial trouble seems to come from the fact that he spends way more than he earns.

Britney Spears

This pop icon’s 2008 divorce fillings were extremely eye opening. They showed that Britney didn’t save a dime of her $737,000 monthly income but, in fact, spent it on homes, restaurants, and entertainment. This seemed to be a sort of reality check for Britney and now that she’s enjoying a recent comeback, her finances have been more under control.

Lindsay Lohan

Jail time and drug problems can not only do a number on a person physically and emotionally; they can also be a serious drain on your finances. And on top of suffering from those kinds of problems, Lohan is also know for her extravagant spending. According to US News, she’s purchased $30,000 Rolex watches and a $100,000+ Maserati. And now that her troubles have caused her to not score as many Hollywood starring roles, the actress is just not bringing in enough money to support her lifestyle.

Donald Trump

This one may come as a surprise, but this real estate tycoon has filed for corporate bankruptcy 4 times (most recently in 2009). However, he has described all of these filings as valid business strategies. Really, Donald?
