Let’s face it, getting a makeover can be scary business, especially if you have no prior knowledge of the salon’s work. Nevertheless, sometimes going out on a limb and trying something new yields the most rewarding results. Case in point: This new client’s stunning transformation from drab to fab!

If you’ve watched some of The Makeover Guy’s videos, then you are well aware of the fact that practically all of the women are fans of his before even setting foot into his salon. You see, Hopkins has a huge following on social media, so he’s used to his clients having some sort of familiarity with his process before he and his team get started on their makeovers.

With that said, in the case of the star of today’s video, Leah, she admits that it was not her, but her mother who booked the session, a fact that the stylist confesses makes “much more work for [him].” Nevertheless, the skilled Hopkins soldiers on and begins what ends up being a spectacular makeover.

The consultation opens up with some talk about Leah’s hair preferences. She says that she wants to keep her hair long, but she’s not a huge fan of her natural waves. After some rather tense back-and-forth about her expectations, Hopkins decides that it may be best to talk color first.

The Makeover Guy takes a long, hard look at her dyed hair and comes to the conclusion that the auburn is “pretty,” but it’s not quite what it should be. The salon’s colorist Joelle agrees with her boss, noting that the shade is “absorbing the light, not reflecting it.”

This is making her strands lack definition and appear flat, so the team decides to add some highlights for a more “innovative” look. We think this brighter color is a great call—it really compliments her skin tone.

Once the dye has set, Hopkins begins to show his “shear” talent. Before making the first chop, the stylist tells Leah that his goal is to give her “as much volume as [he] can.” To achieve this, he opts to work with her natural waves by using a leave-in protein treatment to ensure that her hair’s texture is on point.

From there, Hopkins takes some time examining what type of part would look best on her—his goal is for her freshly-cut locks to frame her face perfectly. Luckily, his hard work pays off; Leah is left with a new cut that we think fits her personality so much better!

For some “icing on the cake”, Joann, the salon’s wardrobe consultant, gives the client some silhouette advice that’s meant to help her make clothing choices that best flatter her body type.

To tie her new look together, makeup artist, Kami, chooses makeup that is soft, natural, and gives her an enviable glow.

This is one makeover that obviously exceeded the client’s expectations—she looks so happy! To see the beautiful results for yourself, be sure to watch the video below.
