2-Year-Old Sends Over $1,000 of His Parents’ Cash Through the Shredder

Kids: they sure do have quite the habit of “getting into things.” (If you’ve ever left a little one alone to their own devices for 5 minutes, then you know exactly what we’re talking about!) That said, sometimes kids don’t just “get into things,” they “get into things” in incredibly destructive ways.

Take little Leo Belnap, for instance. This 2-year-old provided one of the best examples of kids “getting into things,” when he put an envelope containing over $1,000 in cash right into the sharp mouth of his parents’ shredder.

Nope, we’re not kidding.

According to his folks, Ben and Jackee Belnap, the two had saved up the cash so that they could pay Ben’s parents back for a debt. You see, the young couple is die-hard University of Utah football fans who couldn’t afford season tickets when they were released. Ben’s father offered to front them the money, so the two worked hard to pay him back…

Hence the envelope stuffed with cash.

That their toddler promptly shredded.

Obviously, this is a bit of a frustrating story to hear, but rest assured in knowing that the parents are rather good-natured about the whole ordeal. In fact, Ben says that, when he and his wife realized that Leo had shredded the money, they “laughed.”

Well, after crying “a little bit.”

Don’t blame them on that one!

Now, although this might seem like a hopeless situation, there is a silver lining to the story. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will replace damaged cash, provided that it is sent in with a detailed explanation. The process could take up to 2 years, but it sure is better than ending up with zilch!
