Whether you’re a professional or a totally beginning gardener, a raised bed can be your best friend, helping you to plant, weed, water and harvest your fruits and veggies much more easily than typical in-ground gardening. They can also produce higher yields, and we don’t think there’s anything better than a garden bursting with produce— especially when that produce is strawberries! If you’re always looking for new gardening ideas, you’ve probably seen ideas for strawberry-planting that involve using old pallets. Lovely Greens saw them too, but she decided to take the idea one step forward by turning that pallet into a raised planter. Bonus: it only takes two hours! Watch and learn how you can do it too!

Key Tips

• Only use pallets that have been heat treated, not chemically treated. All pallets must be stamped twice with information about how it was made. Chemically-treated pallets will have the stamp “MB” for methyl bromide, the pesticide used in chemical treatments.
• A steel splitting wedge and iron mallet aren’t required to make this project, but they will make your life a lot easier!
• If you want a deeper planter, you can also remove the single plank from the backside in step 2 of the process.
• Help keep the soil in the planter by lining the bottom of the finished project with scraps of wire and landscaping fabric.
