If you’re an avid “The Talk” watcher, you already know that the show hasn’t aired a new episode since March 14. But after the month-long hiatus, we’re finally getting down to the bottom of what happened—and why one of the hosts, Sharon Osbourne, has decided to leave the show.
On March 10, four days before the show decided to take its break, Osborne and another host, Sheryl Underwood, got into a heated argument after Osbourne defended Piers Morgan. Morgan was being called racist after he came forward that he didn’t believe Meghan Markle‘s claims about experiencing racism among the royal family. Things got ugly.
“The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home. As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her cohosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace. We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts,” the network said in a statement. “At the same time, we acknowledge the network and studio teams, as well as the showrunners, are accountable for what happened during that broadcast as it was clear the cohosts were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving race.”
“The Talk” returned on April 12, with Sheryl Underwood warning that the episode would be “unlike any other we’ve had before.” Two diversity experts joined her to discuss all things race, what exactly wsa going on in Underwood’s head during the conversation with Osborne, and what Osbourne’s departure means for the show.
