As the holiday season approaches, we’re always on the lookout for the newest recipes, flavors and store-bought holiday treats. From gingerbread to peppermint, there are certain flavors that always show up in beverages, on store shelves and in cookie swaps.

One of our favorite combinations is chocolate and peppermint. After all, chocolate is pretty hard to beat, and in the winter, you can definitely enjoy it in the form of hot chocolate, which is super easy to make with just three ingredients, by the way. Peppermint adds a refreshing candy cane flavor that just makes chocolate even more enjoyable. Peppermint mocha, anyone?

The folks over at Oreo must agree that chocolate and peppermint is a killer combo because this year they are releasing Peppermint Bark Oreos. Yes, you heard that right, Oreos are better than ever this Christmas.

While we sometimes like to make our own peppermint bark (it’s easier than you’d think), we’re super excited about a creamy version sandwiched between Oreo’s classic chocolate cookies.

Last year, the holiday flavor was a mint filling inside the traditional chocolate cookies, but peppermint bark ups the ante. According to the description on the package, the filling is a “peppermint flavored creme with crunchy sugar crystals.” Um, yum!

If you’re not already drooling, just imagine eating one of these Oreos with a cup of hot chocolate. You’re drooling now, aren’t you?

While eating Oreos on their own or with hot chocolate is definitely recommended, we also love using the classic sandwich cookie in all sorts of recipes. From cupcakes and cheesecake to cookie bars, Oreos make almost any dessert better.

This holiday Oreo replaces the Halloween version of the cookie that’s bound to disappear early in November. While the Halloween cookie certainly fits the season with it’s orange creme filling, the flavor didn’t change at all. We’re looking forward a creative Oreo that doesn’t just look different; it tastes different too.
