Good child care is hard to find, but when you have the funds to splurge on a nanny, you can sort of tailor your job posting to your family’s needs. And in this case, their fancy whims.
A UK couple went on a search to find the perfect nanny to look after their twin girls part-time. On its face, that doesn’t sound so bad, right? But the opening line of the job ad started with the words, “I have a slightly unusual request. . .”
That request? To dress up as a Disney character each month and act the part while performing nanny duties. Before you scoff, the gig’s pay rate was listed as 40,000£ (roughly $52,000 USD) for the year, with 5 weeks of vacation and reimbursement for the princess costumes.
Yes, this is a real listing. Now, for those who tried out to be a Disney cast member but never realized their dreams, this could be a great fit, as long as you can handle all the other duties. One actually has to be good with kids, have some domestic skills, and is a role model in some form:
“Like most 5-year-olds, our girls are obsessed with Disney and we feel this would be the best way to communicate some important values. We know this isn’t a normal request for nannies, however we think it would be a great way to teach our girls about things like determination, compassion, fearlessness and ambition from strong yet relatable female role models like Princess Tiana, Princess Anna, Belle and Cinderella.
We are looking for someone who can commit to a character and create a really fun atmosphere in our home, but also won’t be afraid to be a disciplinarian if the twins are naughty or act out – they can be little terrors at times! The right person will have a real creative flare as well as a passion for all things Disney and will be able to share that love of those characters with our girls.
The role involves picking the girls up after school, four days a week, arranging a variety of Disney-related activities (arts and crafts, baking, singing, etc.), cooking dinner and potentially putting them to bed if we’re late home from work.”
Posted to a UK childcare job board, it only requires the right candidate to show up for work Tuesday through Friday. But, as is normally the case, not everyone in the Internet sphere approves of this message.
Though the original listing went up in March, it is still on the job site, leading us to think that perhaps the position is still up for grabs. So, if you have a penchant for dancing in the woods, talking to animals, outsmarting witches, and can cook, sing, and babysit, why not go for it?
