Jennifer Lopez has been in the media a lot recently due to her rekindled romance with Ben Affleck. The two were engaged years ago, and now, they are engaged once again.
Lopez isn’t always comfortable with the media attention on her personal life. In her new Netflix documentary “Halftime,” she shared that she considered walking away from a career in movies and music due to the negative media attention. She explained, “No matter what I achieved, their appetite to cover my personal life overshadowed everything that was happening in my career. I just had very low self-esteem. I really believed a lot of what they said, which is, I wasn’t any good, that I wasn’t a good singer, I wasn’t a good actress, I wasn’t a good dancer. I wasn’t good at anything. I just didn’t belong here. Why wouldn’t I just go away? I felt like I was in this really abusive, dysfunctional relationship.”
One of the decisions Lopez made that was heavily mocked had to do with a dress she wore to the Grammy Awards back in 2000. The dress was a deeply plunging v-neck green jungle print gown designed by Versace. Although Lopez got a lot of attention for wearing it, she was not the first celebrity to be photographed in the dress she made famous.

In the documentary “Halftime,” Lopez explained that she wasn’t ashamed to show her curves in the Versace dress. She said, “When I started working, the beauty ideal was very thin: blond, tall, and not a lot of curves. I grew up around women with curves. So it was nothing ever I was ashamed of.”
Even though she wasn’t ashamed of her curves, she still didn’t like being the punch line of a joke. Because of the Versace dress, she was mocked in interviews, on talk shows and even on an episode of “South Park.” Lopez explained, “It was hard when you think people think you’re a joke, like you’re a punch line.”
Lopez has moved on from being a punch line due to the jungle print Versace dress. In fact, she wore an updated and even more risque version of the dress at the spring 2020 Versace fashion show.
Do you think Lopez made the right decision to wear the Versace dress back in 2020? Do you think we would still be living in a world without Google Images if she had decided to wear the white dress instead?
