Just yesterday we gave you all of the details on the jaguar attack that occurred at a Phoenix-area zoo. In case you missed it, here’s the abridged version: a woman thought that it would be a good idea to snap a selfie in front of the jaguar enclosure at the Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park. Doesn’t seem too crazy, right? Well, she also thought that it would be a good idea to climb over a barrier in order to get the shot.
Can you guess what happened next??
Fortunately, for the woman, who is only being named as “Leanne” in the media, the female jaguar only swiped at her arm and didn’t do any further damage. Leanne did receive stitches, but other than that, she seems to be doing fine. As a matter of fact, she was even well enough to give an interview to her local CBS station regarding the attack.
In it, she wore dark sunglasses to hide her appearance, as well as a cast on her injured arm. Leanne seemed regretful for her actions, telling the reporter that she “learned [her] lesson.”
So, how does the zoo feel about all of this unexpected publicity? Ever the classy establishment, the Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park just released this sweet statement via its Twitter page. Apparently, the zoo owners and zookeepers are focused on forgiveness and moving forward…

Talk about a great attitude. We’re happy that both parties seem to be doing their best to move past this sad incident. And, most of all, we’re happy that this jaguar won’t be punished for the woman’s careless actions.
To see the full interview with the jaguar attack victim (or provoker, depending on how you look at it!), be sure to watch the video below. She certainly does have an interesting take on the incident.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this story! Are you surprised that Leanne would give an interview? Do you think she deserves an invitation back to the zoo? Do you think the zoo should re-think its barriers?
