The Jaguar Who Took a Swipe at a Woman Taking a Selfie Won’t Be Put Down

There are certain places in this world where rules should be followed at all times–zoos being one of them! All of those signs and barriers surrounding the animals aren’t meant to spoil your fun, but instead, keep you and your loved ones safe.

Makes sense, right? Well, maybe someone should have told that to a woman who decided that it was a good idea to climb over a barrier at a Phoenix-area zoo to take a selfie with a jaguar.

Nope, we’re not kidding…

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the odd story was quickly picked up by news outlets the world over, with it gaining full “viral” status just hours after the zoo’s tweet. The Internet, specifically Twitter, was up in arms about the unnamed woman’s foolish decision to cross that barrier, with many voicing their concerns about the jaguar’s well-being.

You see, some zoos have policies of euthanizing animals when attacks such as these occur. Luckily for all of the tweeting animal-lovers out there, though, it’s been confirmed that the jaguar will be spared from any such intervention.

Phew! We are so happy to hear that, while the selfie-taking offender might not have been thinking logically, the zoo that houses the animal certainly is. Yet another reminder to always follow and respect all rules and barriers at zoos!

We’d love to hear your take on this story. Are you surprised that a zoo visitor would climb over a barrier to snap a selfie? Do you think the animal should be euthanized? How should the visitor be punished?
