There are some things in life that are necessary but that we avoid, like trips to the DMV. The DMV is notorious for long lines, and the pressure is immense. You might be there to take a driving test, and there is pressure to pass that ultra-important test. You might be there to renew a license, and the pressure to take a good picture is immense. Regardless, the DMV is not somewhere we go for fun.
Thankfully, many DMV services are available online. Whenever we get the chance, we use the online option to renew licenses, registration and license plates. It’s so much easier to press a few buttons than it is to wait in line. Also, if you’re renewing a drivers license, you don’t have to have your picture taken again. If you’re satisfied with your most recent picture, that’s a huge plus.
Recently, Jade Dodd renewed her drivers license online. What she received in the mail surprised her. It was a drivers license alright. It had her name and information on it, but there was one major problem. The picture wasn’t a picture of her. It was a picture of an empty chair.
Dodd posted about the incident on Facebook, and her post has now been shared more than 20,000 times. Apparently, a lot of people are seeing a lot of humor in this situation.
Dodd told WKRN News 2, “The lady at the DMV did not really believe me when I was like hey, I need my license fixed,” Dodd said. “Then, she looked it up in the system and goes, ‘oh, I need my manager for this.’”
In a statement, Wes Moster of the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security explained what happened.
“When the customer visited the Driver Services Center a few years ago, during the transaction, an examiner made an error by capturing and saving the wrong photo (of an empty chair) to the customer’s profile. When the customer recently renewed her driver license online, she received an image of a chair because that was the last picture taken on file. When the Department was made aware of her situation, we immediately made things right with the customer and provided her with a license with her actual photo and have addressed this situation internally.”
Have you ever had something strange happen at the DMV? Do you prefer to go to the DMV in person or use the online services when possible?
