If you’ve ever seen the classic Disney movie Snow White, you know what it’s about: A pure woman with an evil step mother is seeking love, but she runs away and meets seven dwarves who she lives with, but then nearly dies when her stepmother tries to poison her…
It’s a lovely adventurous movie, but the ending has had some controversy over it for quite some time: While Snow White lays unconscious, essentially on her death bed, Prince Charming comes along and lays a big fat kiss on her, only to awaken her with the power of true love’s kiss.
Sure, it’s a Disney movie and not entirely realistic, but fans have had issues with the kiss because Snow White didn’t’ give consent for Prince Charming to kiss her. She didn’t even know it was happening!
Now that Disneyland in Anaheim has reopened after they closed down for nearly a year, workers have taken some time to add some new rides, including one relating to the Snow White saga. And of course, that included Snow White and Prince Charming’s kiss to the end.
A review of the new ride for SFGate.com went viral after they bashed how outdated the notion seemed.
“Haven’t we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn’t been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK?” the review read. “It’s hard to understand why the Disneyland of 2021 would choose to add a scene with such old fashioned ideas of what a man is allowed to do to a woman.”
Disneyland hasn’t responded for comment yet.
