Going forward, when you refer to musician Demi Lovato, be sure you use gender neutral pronouns. The singer has officially changed their pronouns to “they” and “them.” In a video on Twitter and through a series of tweet, they announced they are non-binary.
If you find yourself wondering what non-binary means, it basically means that they do not identify as a man or a woman. Instead, non-binary people may identify as a mix of male and female or not feel that either gender fits who they are.
In Lovato’s video, they explained, “I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression, and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering.”
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way xox

If you think using “they” and “them” for one person sounds like bad grammar, you’re not alone; however, “they” and “them” is appropriate in this case since they are gender neutral pronouns.
They/Them is not just plural, you use they/them in situations where you are unsure anyway, so why not use it here?
