The COVID-19 outbreak of 2020 has certainly taken its toll on everyone in the United States, let alone the world. From China to Italy and so forth, we’ve seen the pandemics unfold across the countries. As a result, countless people have been laid off, there’s no toilet paper to be found, and with schools closed, the kids are home 24/7.
While the government is working to help the people whose job has been affected, and stores are restocking their shelves with toilet paper, there’s a solution to having the kids at home with you too: There are actually lots of ways to entertain them, with more and more coming out each day.
You might’ve heard the phrase “We’re alone together” floating around, and it’s true. While everyone has been instructed to stay inside as much as possible, we’re all looking to each other to help. In a weird way, we’re all doing our best to help everyone else.
Even celebrities are doing their part to help others. One of the cutest acts of kindness during this time that we’ve seen is an Instagram account set up by actresses Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner.
The account is called @savewithstories and it features Hollywood stars from all over reading children’s books to a camera screen. It’s as if they’re sitting in front of a group of kids, but the kids get to watch it on the other end of the screen, staying safe in their home.
Everyone from Jamie Lee Curtis to Jimmy Fallon and Chip and Joanna Gaines can be seen in their own videos on the Instagram page. Each celebrity chose one of their favorite children’s books to read. Just some of the titles include “Giraffes Can’t Dance,” “The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark,” and “Is Your Mama a Llama?”
We bet you’re awwwing out loud and praising the celebs for such a great idea. But we haven’t even told you the best part yet! You can help, too.
The @savewithstories Instagram is made possible in partnership with Save the Children and No Kid Hungry. While the stories are free to the public to watch, parents are able to make a donation to help Save the Children and No Kid Hungry make sure schools and community programs can ensure food for kids affected during the outbreak.
“Millions of children in the U.S. go to school not just to learn, but also for breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner,” the organization explains. “You’re also supporting our important work to meet the health, education and nutrition needs of kids in other countries impacted by coronavirus.”
Anyone who’d like can make a donation here or text “SAVE” to 20222 for a one-time donation of $10.
“All you have to do is watch our stories and please consider donating,” Adams said in a video with Garner.
What an amazing endeavor! It’s so amazing how everyone creative we can get to band together in times of crises. What do you think of how celebrities are coming together with @savewithstories?
