When it comes to TV’s singing competitions, we sometimes learn that among the uber talented are former backup singers for famous singers. Striking out from the background with the opportunity to shine on their own, their voices are quite memorable in their own right.
The internet has bred similar backup stars, many of whom have sung duets with well-known performers. The Sia-written, Rihanna-sung tune “Diamonds” has seen many cover versions played on the web and radio. But you’ve never heard a version quite like this one. When you watch the duet below, you’ll get to decide whose vocals are more appealing to you.
Emanuele and his French bulldog are out cruising and listening to the radio, which happens to be playing a cover of the hit. When the song starts off, Junior is riding shotgun and looks over at his friend as if he’s waiting for him to start the verse. It doesn’t take long for him to jump in and back Emanuele up. And boy is he the perfect backup singer.
Though he did take a couple of breaks to yawn mid-song, we’ve got to admit this dog’s got some chops. He takes cues well, and has perfect timing when chiming in for his parts. It seems like he might really want to take the lead, but holds back and lets Emanuele have his moment.
About two and half minutes in is where Junior really starts feeling it. Impressive. Amazing. This is the moment where the judges would start tearing up if this were a reality show audition. Even Rihanna would be moved to send a tweet. The way he hits those notes are just too much. Beautiful like diamonds in the sky. . .
Junior and his family are known for their vocal prowess, with the pup even having his own Facebook page. Don’t think he’s limited to singing pop ballads either. The gifted little guy actually has tackled everything from dance tunes to Christmas songs, and the ultimate crowd-pleaser, “Let it Go”.
He and his buds spend a lot of time hanging out in the car, and the adorable pooch is never camera shy when it comes to these singing collabs. You can’t tell him (or his owners) that he isn’t pitch perfect. Junior even made an appearance on Germany’s Got Talent, bowtie-ready and all!
If you’ve been feeling kind of sour, this video will definitely cheer you up. Something about Junior says that he only needs to hear a song once before he gets it.
