Do you ever find yourself limiting your holiday gift choices because of their size? You really wanted to get your cousin that new stereo system for her car…but look at that box! It’s massive! You think there’s no way you’ll be able to wrap it well, so you pass it up for a more “manageable” present.
Look, we’re not here to judge you. I know that I’m a pretty terrible gift-wrapper myself and I’m positive that I’ve ignored perfectly good gifts because of their size or oblong shape.
Of course it’s frustrating that not every gift can be that perfect 8″ x 8″ box that’s a breeze to wrap, but life isn’t always going to be a perfect square! If a gift is truly perfect for your friend or family member, don’t let it’s size turn you off — just figure out a better way to wrap it.
Luckily, Oprah always has our backs. Her channel, OWN, did an amazing tutorial on how to wrap an oversized present, and it works incredibly well! You’ll be able to take on any size gift if you just follow these simple instructions.
Here’s the first half of the steps for this oversized project:
- Measure how much paper you’ll need by wrapping it around one end of the box.
- Cut the length of this piece.
- Use doubled sided tape to secure the paper on top of the gift.
- On the side, first fold down the top flaps and secure with tape. Then pinch a diagonal crease from the top corners down and fold them in one at a time. Secure these final flaps with double sided tape, too.
You’re almost there, but make sure to watch the video below to get the full set of instructions for wrapping your larger present. Don’t worry about paper creases being shown, this brilliant tutorial is going to make your gift wrapping job flawless and festive.
No gift will be too large to conquer once you know this simple wrapping method! Plus, you’ll save yourself some serious time and money opting to wrap this way — think about the paper you’ll save! Let’s face it, wrapping paper isn’t cheap this time of year and you need to conserve as much as you can. With this technique, you absolutely will, no matter the size of the present.
Not only this, but your present is going to come out looking AMAZING. Your friends and family will think it was professionally done…and for someone whose wrapping usually looks like it was done by a five-year-old, that is a huge milestone. (That would be me, by the way.)
Make sure to get creative with the type of paper you use! We love that this OWN video uses butcher paper to give the gift a rustic look, but you can use your imagination to come up with other cool materials to wrap with, too!
