How to Make a 3-Ingredient Copycat Frosty

Did you miss Wendy’s Free Frosty Day this year? We did too, and we were pretty heartbroken about it. Then we found this DIY version from POPSUGAR Food and our lives got a whole lot better! When you see how easy it is to make, you’ll be celebrating Frosty Day all year long, whenever you want.

The Frosty was actually invented in 1969 by owner Dave Thomas. He thought that a traditional chocolate shake would be too strong of a flavor to pair with their burgers and fries, so they combined vanilla and chocolate to make the company’s signature dessert.

Despite the fact that it took a little ingenuity to make the original Frosty, it’s a lot simpler to make your own!

All you need for this copycat recipe are three simple ingredients, ones that you might have in your kitchen right now! If not, they’re very common goods, so you can pick up all three at your local grocery store.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your very own Wendy’s Frosty, right at home:

Copycat Wendy’s Frosty

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 gallon chocolate milk
  • 1 tub Cool Whip

Since Frosty’s are the ultimate combination of chocolate and vanilla in one frozen dessert, you need two equally delicious sources for these flavors. If you hadn’t guessed already, the sweetened condensed milk and the chocolate milk act as the chocolate and vanilla in this homemade concoction.

And as for the Cool Whip? That’s what’ll make your DIY Frosty light and smooth!

You’ll notice that in the video below, Brandi uses an ice cream maker for 20-30 minutes to make a Frosty-worthy consistency. Needless to say, we don’t all casually own ice cream makers.

Don’t worry if you’re in that camp; you can use a regular blender to get a similar effect. Other copycat recipes have suggested that if you’re not going to use an ice cream maker, it might be best to freeze the concoction after blending for about two hours, making sure to stir every few minutes.

The first step in this process will also help to get just the right consistency, but you’re going to have to watch the video below to see what that is!
