2018 is set to be a big year for the Royal Family! Prince Harry and his fiancé Meghan Markle are set to wed in May, just before his cousin Princess Eugenie and her long-time partner Jack Brooksbank. All of that is just fine and good, but what we’re really excited about is the fact that we will be graced with yet another member of the Royal Family in April.
That’s right; Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their third child. It’s an event that is exciting for two reasons: 1) the world will be getting a new prince or princess and 2) 4-year-old Prince George and Prince Charlotte will be getting a new, little brother or sister to play with. Sweet, right?
Now, with anything Royal Family-related, there has been an enormous amount of attention focused on Duchess Kate’s pregnancy—and we admit, we’ve been doling out insider tidbits just like everyone else.
In the past several months, we have clued you in on Kate’s debilitating first-trimester morning sickness, where this part of the Royal Family will live once the baby comes, and even a retrospective on the Duchess’ iconic maternity style. It’s been a fun journey, to say the least, but what we want to focus on now is what this new little bundle of joy will be called.
Information compiled in a piece by The Cut reports that, while Kensington Palace has given the public no indication as to what names the royal couple is considering, plenty of gamblers think they have some pretty good guesses of their own.
Jessica Bridge of the Ladbrokes Betting Agency in the U.K. revealed that the girls’ name with the current highest number of bets is Mary, with the highest boys’ names being tied at Albert and Arthur.
Of course, each of those three names holds significance to the Royal Family. There was Mary Queen of Scots, otherwise known as ‘Bloody Mary’.
Ummm…Yeah, maybe not the best choice…
The most notable member named Albert was Prince Albert, the husband, and consort of 19th- century ruler, Queen Victoria. Arthur is also a strong contender—he was a 15th and 16th-century Prince of Whales, a man who had a lot in common with Prince William’s dad, Charles, who holds the current title of ‘Prince of Whales’. All apropos monikers, indeed!
History aside, we’re not totally sure if we’d place our money on the name Mary—or Albert or Arthur, for that matter. Maybe it’s just us, but we’re really ready for these royals to opt for something a bit more unconventional. Perhaps something really esoteric like Axyl or Indigo. And if they’re not into those, we have plenty of other ideas…
