Watch out. It’s April Fool’s Day. Someone just might be trying to prank you. Weather you wake up to find out that your cereal was in the freezer all night or that your juice is really Jell-O, April Fool’s Day jokes are usually harmless enough.

Some people really enjoy looking forward to how they are going to prank their friends, family and co-workers. Other people tip-toe through the day hoping they don’t get pranked.

Then there are companies that like to prank, well, everyone but especially their customers and potential customers. Sometimes this is harmless enough and is just a good way of getting everyone talking about them. Then, there are times when the joke didn’t land the way they expected.

Volkswagen decided to do an April Fool’s Day prank this year. Perhaps the reason the joke didn’t land is that nobody was expecting an April Fool’s Day prank in March.

The car company announced that they would be changing their name from Volkswagen to Voltswagen. It was a way for them to promote their electric vehicle. The press release was “accidentally” published on Monday. In the press release, Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen of America, said, “This name change signifies a nod to our past as the peoples’ car and our firm belief that our future is in being the peoples’ electric car.”
